"Buying a home in Quepos can be a great investment, as the area is known for its beautiful beaches and lush rainforest. However, it is important to consider the cost of living in the area, as well as the availability of rental properties. Renting a home in Quepos can be a great option for those who are looking for a more flexible living situation, as it allows for more freedom to explore the area and its attractions. Additionally, renting can be a more cost-effective option for those who are not looking to commit to a long-term investment. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Quepos should be based on individual needs and preferences," said one expat who made the move to Quepos.

What do I need to know when buying property in Quepos?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Quepos, they said:

"When buying property in Quepos, it is important to research the local laws and regulations regarding real estate transactions. It is also important to understand the local tax implications of owning property in the area. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the local infrastructure and services available in the area, such as access to utilities, transportation, and healthcare. It is also important to research the local market to understand the current trends in the area and to ensure that the property is a good investment. Finally, it is important to work with a reputable real estate agent or lawyer to ensure that the transaction is conducted legally and safely," explained one person living in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Are foreigners allowed to own property in Quepos?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Quepos, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Quepos. The country has a law known as the "Ley de la Reforma Agraria" which allows foreign citizens to purchase and own property in Costa Rica. This law also allows foreign citizens to obtain a mortgage from a Costa Rican bank to purchase property. However, foreign citizens must obtain a residency visa in order to purchase property in Costa Rica. Additionally, foreign citizens must also register the property with the Costa Rican government in order to obtain legal title to the property," explained one expat in Quepos.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

We asked foreigners in Quepos what appliances are typically included in a rental, and, if there is anything else included or not included that a newcomer would not expect. Replies included:

"Rental properties in Quepos typically include a refrigerator, stove, oven, and microwave. Additionally, some properties may include a washing machine and dryer. Depending on the property, other appliances such as a dishwasher, air conditioner, and/or water heater may also be included," said one foreigner living in Quepos, Costa Rica.

"Expats can search for homes in Quepos by looking online for real estate listings, contacting local real estate agents, and asking other expats for recommendations. They can also search for rental listings on websites such as Airbnb and VRBO, or look for classified ads in local newspapers and magazines. Additionally, expats can attend open houses and visit local neighborhoods to get a better feel for the area," said one expat in Quepos.
