"When buying property in Montego Bay, it is important to research the area and the local market. It is also important to understand the local laws and regulations regarding property ownership and taxation. Additionally, it is important to consider the safety and security of the area, as well as the potential for natural disasters. "Buying a home here is a process, and you do not want to leave that home empty six months out of the year… It will be vandalized, burglarized, and taken over by squatters… Depending of course, where are you buy a house," explained one expat in Montego Bay.

Additionally, foreigners may need to obtain a license from the Jamaican government if they plan to purchase more than five acres of land for commercial purposes or if they intend to lease the property," explained one expat in Montego Bay.
