Word of mouth is often the best way to find a place to live in a new city," said one expat who made the move to Rabat.

What is a typical expat home or apartment like in Rabat?

"Expat homes and apartments in Rabat typically feature modern amenities and furnishings, with many having balconies or terraces that offer stunning views of the city. Many expat homes and apartments are located in the city center, close to shops, restaurants, and other amenities. Expat homes and apartments often feature air conditioning, high-speed internet, and modern appliances. Many expat homes and apartments also have access to a shared pool, gym, and other recreational facilities," said one expat in Rabat.

What is the average cost of housing in Rabat?

If you are thinking about moving to Rabat, cost of living in probably a key consideration. Expats commented about the cost of housing:

Should I buy or rent a home in Rabat?

However, it is important to consider the costs associated with buying a home, such as closing costs, taxes, and maintenance. Renting a home in Rabat can be a more affordable option, and it can provide more flexibility if you are not sure how long you will be living in the city. Ultimately, the decision to buy or rent a home in Rabat should be based on your individual needs and preferences," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Rabat.

"At this point, just renting. Not difficult. I have friends who helped me, so it was not a problem," explained one person living in Rabat, Morocco.

What do I need to know when buying property in Rabat?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Rabat, they said:

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Rabat, they said...

"Yes, foreigners are allowed to own property in Rabat. However, there are certain restrictions and procedures that must be followed. Foreigners can purchase most types of property, including residential and commercial properties, but they are not allowed to buy agricultural land without special permission from the Moroccan government. To purchase a property, a foreigner must obtain a certificate from the Foreign Exchange Office, which confirms the origin of the funds used for the purchase. Additionally, all property transactions must be conducted through a notary, who will ensure that the necessary paperwork is completed and taxes are paid," wrote one expat who made the move to Rabat.

What appliances are typically included in a rental?

"In a rental property in Rabat, tenants can typically expect to find a refrigerator, stove, oven, and washing machine. Additionally, some properties may include a dishwasher, microwave, and air conditioning unit," said one foreigner living in Rabat, Morocco.
