What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Cordoba?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Cordoba about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Spanish healthcare system. Spain has a high standard of healthcare and maternity services, so rest assured that you will be well taken care of. Ensure that you have the necessary health insurance coverage. If you are working in Spain, you will be entitled to free healthcare, including maternity care. If not, you may need to arrange for private health insurance. Learn some basic Spanish medical terms or consider hiring a translator for your doctor's appointments. While many doctors in Spain do speak English, not all medical staff may be fluent. Find a good local doctor or midwife who you feel comfortable with. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or locals. Consider taking prenatal classes. These can be a great way to meet other expectant parents and learn more about the birthing process in Spain. Prepare all the necessary paperwork for your baby's birth certificate and passport. It's important to note that the process can be quite bureaucratic and may take some time. Remember that Spain has a different culture around childbirth than many other countries. For example, fathers are not always allowed in the delivery room, and there is a greater emphasis on natural birth. Finally, try to embrace the local customs and traditions. Having a baby in another country can be a wonderful opportunity to learn about a new culture and make lasting memories," wrote a member who made the move to Cordoba, Spain.
