What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Seville?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Seville about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Spanish healthcare system. Spain has a high standard of healthcare and maternity services, and most of the care you will receive will be free or at a low cost. However, you may want to consider private healthcare for more personalized care. Ensure that you have all the necessary paperwork in order. This includes your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if you're from an EU country, or proof of health insurance if you're from outside the EU. You will also need to register the birth at the local registry office. Learn some basic Spanish medical terms or consider hiring a translator for your appointments. While many doctors and nurses speak English, not all medical staff may be fluent. Consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help navigate the healthcare system and communicate with medical staff. Join local expat groups or online forums. They can provide invaluable advice and support, as well as recommendations for doctors, hospitals, and other services. Prepare for the cultural differences. Spanish people typically have a different approach to childbirth than other countries, with a greater emphasis on natural birth and less medical intervention. Finally, enjoy this special time. Seville is a beautiful city with a rich culture and history, and it's a wonderful place to start a family," explained one expat living in Seville, Spain.
