What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Vevey?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Vevey about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"1. Research and choose a hospital or birthing center that suits your needs and preferences. Switzerland has excellent healthcare facilities, and Vevey is no exception. 2. Familiarize yourself with the Swiss healthcare system. It is mandatory to have health insurance in Switzerland, so ensure that your insurance covers maternity costs. 3. Consider hiring a doula or midwife. They can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. 4. Attend prenatal classes. These classes can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. They are also a great way to meet other expectant parents in Vevey. 5. Learn the local language. While many people in Vevey speak English, it can be helpful to know some French, as it is the official language of the region. 6. Understand the maternity leave policies in Switzerland. The country offers 14 weeks of paid maternity leave to mothers. 7. Register your baby's birth within the required timeframe. In Switzerland, you must register your baby's birth within three days at the local civil registry office. 8. Make sure to have all necessary documents for the baby. This includes a birth certificate and passport if you plan on traveling with your baby. 9. Get your baby's vaccinations on schedule. Switzerland has a recommended vaccination schedule for babies and children. 10. Connect with other expat parents. They can provide valuable advice and support, and help you navigate the challenges of raising a child in a foreign country," explained one expat living in Vevey, Switzerland.
