What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Koh Chang?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Koh Chang about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to find a reliable healthcare provider. While Koh Chang has a hospital, it may not offer the same level of maternity care as larger cities in Thailand. You might want to consider traveling to Bangkok or Pattaya for regular check-ups and for the delivery. Secondly, ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity costs. Healthcare in Thailand can be expensive, particularly for foreigners, so it's crucial to have a good insurance plan. Thirdly, familiarize yourself with the local customs and traditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. Thai culture has its own unique practices and beliefs, and understanding these can help you navigate your pregnancy more smoothly. Fourthly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help bridge any language or cultural gaps. Fifthly, start planning for your child's future early. This includes deciding whether you want your child to attend local Thai schools or international schools, and understanding the legal process for registering your child's birth and securing their citizenship. Lastly, connect with other expats who have had babies in Thailand. They can provide invaluable advice and support, and may be able to recommend specific doctors, midwives, or hospitals," commented one expat who made the move to Koh Chang, Thailand.
