What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Krabi?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Krabi about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Thailand. While the country has a good standard of healthcare, it's advisable to have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity costs. Secondly, consider where you want to give birth. There are several hospitals in Krabi, but you may want to travel to a larger city like Bangkok for the birth, as the facilities and English-speaking staff are more plentiful. Thirdly, make sure you understand the legal requirements for registering the birth. In Thailand, you must register the birth within 30 days at the local district office. Fourthly, it's important to plan for postnatal care. In Thailand, it's common for the mother and baby to stay at the hospital for a few days after the birth for monitoring. Fifthly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide support and advice throughout the pregnancy and birth. Lastly, try to connect with other expat parents in Krabi. They can provide invaluable advice and support, and may be able to recommend doctors, hospitals, and other resources," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Krabi, Thailand.
