What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Palm Jumeirah?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Palm Jumeirah about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to understand that healthcare in the UAE is of a high standard, but it can be expensive, so ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Secondly, you should familiarize yourself with the local customs and laws regarding childbirth and parenting. For instance, unmarried couples are not allowed to have a baby in the UAE, and same-sex couples may face legal issues. Thirdly, choose your hospital or birthing center carefully. There are many excellent facilities in Palm Jumeirah and the surrounding areas, so take the time to visit a few and find one where you feel comfortable. Fourthly, consider hiring a doula or midwife to support you through the pregnancy and birth. They can provide invaluable advice and assistance, particularly if you're far from your home country and family. Fifthly, be aware that the process for registering a birth and obtaining a birth certificate for your baby can be complex in the UAE. It's a good idea to research this in advance and perhaps seek advice from a legal professional. Lastly, try to connect with other expat parents in Palm Jumeirah. They can provide a wealth of advice and support, and may be able to recommend local resources such as pediatricians, baby stores, and parenting groups," wrote a member who made the move to Palm Jumeirah, the UAE.
