What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Salto?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Salto about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Uruguay. The country has a high standard of healthcare, with both public and private options available. You should ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician who speaks your language or, if not, consider hiring a translator for your appointments. Communication is key when it comes to your health and the health of your baby. Thirdly, you should consider where you want to give birth. There are several hospitals in Salto, and it's worth visiting them in advance to see which one you feel most comfortable in. Fourthly, it's important to understand the cultural norms around childbirth in Uruguay. For example, it's common for the father to be present during the birth, and breastfeeding in public is widely accepted. Fifthly, you should look into the legal requirements for registering the birth of your baby. In Uruguay, you need to register the birth within 45 days. Lastly, consider joining expat groups or forums where you can connect with other expats who have had a baby in Salto. They can provide valuable advice and support during this exciting time," wrote a member who made the move to Salto, Uruguay.
