What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Montevideo?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Montevideo about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Uruguay. The country has a high standard of healthcare, with both public and private options available. You may want to consider getting private health insurance to cover maternity costs. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician who speaks your language or at least English. This will make communication easier and ensure you understand everything about your pregnancy and delivery. Thirdly, prenatal care is very important. Regular check-ups and ultrasounds are standard in Uruguay, so make sure you attend all your appointments. Fourthly, you should also look into birthing classes. These can be a great way to prepare for the birth and to meet other expectant parents. Fifthly, it's worth noting that Uruguay has a very family-friendly culture. There are plenty of parks, activities, and facilities for children, so you'll have plenty of support and things to do once the baby arrives. Lastly, make sure you understand the legal aspects of having a baby in Uruguay. This includes registering the birth and obtaining a passport for your child if you plan to travel. Remember, it's okay to ask for help and advice. The expat community in Montevideo is generally very supportive and can provide valuable insights and recommendations," remarked another expat in Montevideo, Uruguay.
