What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Rocha?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Rocha about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Uruguay. The country has a high standard of healthcare, with both public and private options available. Ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. This should include prenatal check-ups, delivery, and postnatal care. Find a good obstetrician who speaks your language or consider hiring a translator for your appointments. Communication is key when it comes to your health and the health of your baby. Research and visit the hospitals in Rocha to find one where you feel comfortable. Check the facilities and ask about their policies on things like pain relief options, cesarean sections, and having your partner present during the birth. Consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during labor. Uruguay has a strong culture of breastfeeding, so expect strong support for this in the hospital and in public places. However, the choice is ultimately yours, and you should do what feels right for you and your baby. Prepare for your baby's arrival by understanding the local customs and practices around childbirth. This can include things like baby showers, naming traditions, and postpartum care. Finally, make sure you understand the process for registering your baby's birth and obtaining a passport if you plan to travel with your baby or return to your home country. It's also important to understand the citizenship laws in Uruguay if one or both parents are foreigners," said another expat in Rocha, Uruguay.
