What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Dundee?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Dundee about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to register with a local GP (General Practitioner) as soon as you arrive in Dundee. They will be able to provide you with all the necessary information about maternity services in the area. Scotland's healthcare system, the NHS, provides free maternity care, including prenatal and postnatal care. Make sure to familiarise yourself with the system and the services it offers. Consider attending antenatal classes. These are often provided free of charge by the NHS and can be a great way to meet other expectant parents in Dundee. If you're not a native English speaker, you may want to find a translator for your medical appointments. While many doctors and nurses will speak English, having a translator can ensure that you fully understand everything. Scotland has a Baby Box program, where every newborn baby in Scotland is entitled to a box of essentials to help them get the best start in life. Be sure to register for this. Remember to take care of your mental health as well as your physical health. Moving to a new country can be stressful, and adding a pregnancy into the mix can make it even more so. Don't hesitate to seek help if you're feeling overwhelmed. Finally, try to enjoy this special time. Dundee is a beautiful city with a lot to offer, and it can be a wonderful place to start a family," explained one expat living in Dundee, Scotland.
