What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Battambang?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Battambang about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to find a reliable healthcare provider. While Battambang has several hospitals and clinics, the standard of healthcare may not be as high as in Western countries. Therefore, it's advisable to travel to Phnom Penh or even Bangkok for regular check-ups and for the delivery, if possible. Secondly, ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Medical costs can be high, especially if complications arise, so it's crucial to be financially prepared. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or a midwife who can provide support and guidance throughout the pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help navigate any language barriers or cultural differences. Fourthly, it's important to be aware of the local customs and traditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. Cambodians have many beliefs and practices that may be different from your own, so it's good to be respectful and understanding. Fifthly, make sure to have all the necessary documents in order for your baby's birth certificate and passport. This can be a complex process, especially in a foreign country, so it's advisable to start early. Lastly, try to connect with other expat parents in Battambang. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend local resources such as pediatricians, baby stores, and playgroups," remarked another expat who made the move to Battambang, Cambodia.
