What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Koh Rong Sanloem?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Koh Rong Sanloem about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Having a baby in Koh Rong Sanloem, can be a unique experience, but it's important to be prepared. Firstly, you should familiarize yourself with the local healthcare system. While there are clinics on the island, they may not have the same level of facilities as hospitals in larger cities like Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. Therefore, it might be a good idea to plan for the birth in a city hospital. Secondly, ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity and newborn care. Medical costs can be high, especially if complications arise, so it's crucial to have a good insurance plan. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during the birth. They can also help navigate any language barriers you may encounter. Fourthly, it's important to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Fresh fruits and vegetables are readily available in Cambodia, but you may need to import certain prenatal vitamins or supplements. Fifthly, be aware of the climate. Cambodia is a tropical country and can be very hot and humid, which can be uncomfortable during pregnancy. Stay hydrated and avoid spending too much time in the sun. Lastly, connect with other expats who have had babies in Cambodia. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend doctors, midwives, or hospitals. Remember, every pregnancy is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. Always consult with healthcare professionals and make the choices that are best for you and your baby," said a member in Koh Rong Sanloem, Cambodia.
