What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Phnom Penh?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Phnom Penh about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to find a reputable hospital or clinic for prenatal care and delivery. The Royal Phnom Penh Hospital and the European Medical Center are popular choices among expats. Secondly, ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity and newborn care. Medical costs can be high, especially if complications arise. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide support and guidance throughout the pregnancy and during labor. They can also help navigate any language or cultural barriers. Fourthly, be aware that certain resources may not be readily available in Cambodia, such as specific brands of baby formula or diapers. It may be beneficial to stock up on these items before the baby arrives or arrange for them to be shipped from your home country. Fifthly, take advantage of the local community. There are several expat groups in Phnom Penh that can provide advice, support, and friendship. Lastly, ensure that all necessary paperwork is in order for your baby's birth certificate and passport. This can be a complex process, so it's advisable to start early and seek legal advice if necessary," said another expat in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
