"Firstly, it's important to find a reliable healthcare provider. While Kampot has a few hospitals and clinics, you may want to consider traveling to a larger city like Phnom Penh for regular check-ups and for the delivery, as they have more advanced medical facilities. Secondly, ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity and newborn care. Medical costs can add up quickly, especially if complications arise. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide support and guidance throughout the pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help navigate any language or cultural barriers. Fourthly, familiarize yourself with local customs and traditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. This can help you understand and respect the local culture, and also help you make informed decisions about your own care. Fifthly, make sure you have a support network. This could be other expat families, local friends, or family members who can provide emotional and practical support. Lastly, plan for the practicalities. This includes considering where your child will be born, what citizenship they will have, and what paperwork will need to be completed. It's also worth thinking about childcare options for after the baby is born, such as hiring a nanny or finding a local nursery," wrote a member who made the move to Kampot, Cambodia.
