"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Costa Rica. The country has a universal healthcare system, but many expats also choose to have private insurance. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician who speaks your language and understands your cultural background. This will make your prenatal visits and the delivery process much smoother. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can also help navigate any language or cultural barriers. Fourthly, make sure to understand the maternity leave policies in Costa Rica if you are working. The country has quite generous maternity leave policies compared to many other countries. Fifthly, it's a good idea to connect with other expat parents in Atenas. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend specific doctors, hospitals, or services. Lastly, remember to take time to enjoy this special time in your life. Atenas is a beautiful place with a relaxed pace of life, which can be very beneficial for new parents," wrote a member who made the move to Atenas, Costa Rica.
