What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Nosara?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Nosara about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Costa Rica. The country has a universal healthcare system, but many expats also choose to have private insurance. You should research and decide what's best for your family. Secondly, you should find a good doctor or midwife who you trust and feel comfortable with. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or locals. It's also important to have a clear communication with your healthcare provider about your birth plan. Thirdly, you should consider taking prenatal classes. These classes can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. They can also be a great way to meet other expectant parents in Nosara. Fourthly, you should prepare for the baby's arrival by buying all the necessary items. You can find baby stores in larger cities like San Jose, but the selection may be limited in Nosara. You might want to consider ordering items online or bringing them from your home country. Fifthly, you should learn about the local customs and traditions related to childbirth and parenting. This can help you integrate better into the local community and make your experience more enriching. Lastly, you should take care of your mental health. Having a baby in a foreign country can be stressful, so it's important to have a support system. You can join expat groups or find a local therapist if needed," remarked another expat who made the move to Nosara, Costa Rica.
