What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Kato Paphos?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Kato Paphos about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has both public and private healthcare, and as an expat, you may be eligible for free public healthcare if you are a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) holder. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or locals, or search online. Make sure the doctor is someone you feel comfortable with and can communicate effectively with. Thirdly, consider where you want to give birth. There are both public and private hospitals in Kato Paphos, and the choice depends on your personal preference and insurance coverage. Fourthly, it's advisable to take prenatal classes. These classes can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. They can also be a great way to meet other expectant parents in Kato Paphos. Fifthly, make sure you understand the maternity leave policies in Cyprus. If you are working, you are entitled to maternity leave, and it's important to know your rights and obligations. Lastly, after the baby is born, you will need to register the birth with the local municipality and your home country's embassy or consulate. This will ensure that your child has all the necessary documents and citizenship rights. Remember, having a baby in a foreign country can be a challenging experience, but with the right preparation and support, it can also be a wonderful and rewarding one," commented one expat who made the move to Kato Paphos, Cyprus.
