What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Protaras?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Protaras about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has both public and private healthcare, and as an expat, you may have access to both. However, private healthcare is recommended for more comprehensive and personalized care. Ensure that you have adequate health insurance that covers maternity and childbirth. Some insurance policies may not cover these, so it's crucial to check and possibly upgrade your plan. Find a good obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) who you feel comfortable with. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or locals. It's also important that your OB-GYN speaks a language you're fluent in to avoid any communication barriers. Consider hiring a doula or midwife for additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide emotional support, help with pain management, and assist with breastfeeding. Take prenatal classes if they're available. These classes can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. They're also a great way to meet other expectant parents in Protaras. If you plan to give birth in a hospital, visit the hospital beforehand to familiarize yourself with the facilities and procedures. Some hospitals in Cyprus may have different practices compared to your home country. Ensure that your baby's paperwork for citizenship and passport is in order. Depending on your nationality, the process can be complex and time-consuming. Lastly, connect with other expat parents in Protaras. They can provide valuable advice, support, and friendship. There are several online forums and social media groups where you can connect with other expat parents," wrote a member who made the move to Protaras, Cyprus.
