What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Kiti?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Kiti about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Cyprus. The country has both public and private healthcare, and as an expat, you may have access to both. However, you should check your eligibility and ensure you have adequate health insurance coverage. Secondly, prenatal care is essential for the health of both the mother and the baby. Regular check-ups with a gynecologist or obstetrician are recommended. In Kiti, you may find English-speaking doctors, but it's always a good idea to learn some basic medical terms in Greek. Thirdly, you should plan ahead for the birth. Decide whether you want to give birth in a public or private hospital and make sure you understand the procedures and costs involved. It's also advisable to take a tour of the hospital's maternity ward. Fourthly, consider hiring a doula or midwife. They can provide additional support and guidance throughout the pregnancy and during labor. Fifthly, it's important to understand the parental leave policies in Cyprus. Both parents are entitled to leave, but the duration and pay can vary. Lastly, once the baby is born, you will need to register the birth with the local municipality and your home country's embassy or consulate. This will ensure that your child has all the necessary citizenship and legal documents. Remember, having a baby in a foreign country can be a challenging experience, but with the right preparation and support, it can also be a very rewarding one," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Kiti, Cyprus.
