What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Dalmatia?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Dalmatia about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Croatia. The country has a universal healthcare system, but private healthcare is also available. Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. This should include prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care. Find a good local doctor or midwife who speaks your language. This will make your prenatal appointments and the delivery process much smoother. Research local hospitals and birthing centers in Dalmatia. Visit them if possible to get a feel for the facilities and staff. Understand the local customs and practices around childbirth. In Croatia, it's common for the mother to stay in the hospital for a few days after giving birth. Learn some basic Croatian phrases related to pregnancy and childbirth. This can be helpful in emergencies or when dealing with healthcare professionals who don't speak your language. Consider hiring a doula or birth coach who can provide support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during labor. Make sure you understand the legal requirements for registering the birth and obtaining a birth certificate in Croatia. Finally, try to connect with other expat parents in Dalmatia. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend doctors, hospitals, and other resources," commented one expat who made the move to Dalmatia, Croatia.
