Mothers are entitled to 15 weeks of maternity leave, and fathers are entitled to 10 days. Belgium has a system of 'kraamzorg' or postnatal care, where a professional will visit your home to help with the baby and give advice. This can be very helpful for first-time parents. You'll also need to register the birth of your baby at the local town hall within 15 days. If you're not a Belgian citizen, you'll also need to register the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate. Belgium has a strong tradition of vaccinations, and your baby will need to be vaccinated against a number of diseases. Make sure you're aware of the schedule and that your baby is up to date.
