What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Ba?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Ba about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Fiji. While the country has a number of public and private hospitals, the standard of care may not be the same as in your home country. Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care and childbirth. This should ideally include coverage for any potential complications and newborn care. Find a good obstetrician or midwife who you feel comfortable with. They should be able to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have. Consider taking prenatal classes to prepare for the birth. These can be a great way to meet other expectant parents and learn about the birthing process in Fiji. Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork in order. This includes your passport, visa, and any other documents required by the Fijian government. Plan for the birth well in advance. This includes deciding where you want to give birth, whether it's at home, in a birthing center, or in a hospital. Ensure you have a support network in place. This could be friends, family, or a doula who can help you during the birth and in the postpartum period. Finally, remember to take care of your mental health. Moving to a new country and having a baby can be stressful, so it's important to take time for yourself and seek help if you need it," said a member in Fiji.
