What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Saint-Tropez?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Saint-Tropez about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the French healthcare system, which is one of the best in the world. Pregnant women in France are well cared for, with regular check-ups and ultrasounds as standard. Secondly, you should learn some basic French medical terms or find a doctor who speaks your language to avoid any communication issues during appointments or the delivery. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. Fourthly, be aware that in France, it is common for mothers to stay in the hospital for a few days after giving birth, so pack accordingly. Fifthly, remember to register the birth at the local town hall (Mairie) in Saint-Tropez within three days. Lastly, take advantage of the local support networks and parenting groups in Saint-Tropez, which can provide valuable advice and companionship. Also, be prepared for the paperwork. France is known for its bureaucracy, and this extends to childbirth. You'll need to ensure you have all the necessary documents in order and ready to go. Remember to explore your options for parental leave. In France, both parents are entitled to take time off work after the birth of a child. Finally, enjoy this special time. Saint-Tropez is a beautiful place to start a family, with plenty of outdoor spaces, child-friendly restaurants, and activities for children," remarked another expat who made the move to Saint-Tropez, France.
