What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Visegrad?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Visegrad about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Hungary. The country has a universal healthcare system, but many expats choose to use private healthcare for more personalized care. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician who speaks your language. This will make your prenatal visits and the delivery process much smoother. Thirdly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. Fourthly, make sure to understand the maternity leave policies in Hungary. The country has generous maternity leave policies, but it's important to know your rights and obligations. Fifthly, if you're planning to give birth in a hospital, visit the hospital beforehand to familiarize yourself with the facilities and procedures. Sixthly, it's a good idea to join local expat groups or online forums. They can provide valuable advice and support, and you can learn from their experiences. Lastly, make sure your baby's paperwork is in order. This includes registering the birth with your home country's embassy and obtaining a birth certificate from the Hungarian authorities. Remember, having a baby in a foreign country can be a challenging experience, but with the right preparation and support, it can also be a very rewarding one," said a member in Visegrad, Hungary.
