What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Veszprem?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Veszprem about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Hungary. The country has a universal healthcare system, so you should ensure you are registered and understand how it works. Secondly, you should find a good local doctor or midwife who speaks your language. This will make your prenatal appointments much easier and less stressful. Thirdly, consider taking Hungarian language classes. Even though many Hungarians speak English, especially in the medical field, it could be beneficial to understand some basic Hungarian, particularly related to pregnancy and childbirth. Fourthly, research and visit local hospitals to understand their facilities and services. Veszprem has several hospitals and clinics, so take the time to find one where you feel comfortable. Fifthly, understand the maternity leave and parental rights in Hungary. The country has quite generous policies, so make sure you know your rights and obligations. Sixthly, connect with other expats who have had babies in Hungary. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend doctors, midwives, or hospitals. Lastly, make sure your paperwork is in order. This includes your residency permit, health insurance, and any documents needed for the baby's birth certificate and passport. It's also a good idea to check the requirements for registering the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate in Hungary," remarked another expat in Veszprem, Hungary.
