What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Jakarta?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Jakarta about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"1. Make sure to research the best hospitals and doctors in Jakarta to ensure you have the best care for your baby. 2. Consider hiring a doula or midwife to provide additional support during the pregnancy and delivery. 3. Take advantage of the many prenatal classes available in Jakarta to help prepare for the birth. 4. Make sure to have a plan in place for postpartum care, such as a nanny or family member to help with childcare. 5. Join an expat group or forum to connect with other parents who have gone through the same experience. 6. Familiarize yourself with the local laws and regulations regarding birth certificates and other paperwork. 7. Take the time to explore the city and find the best places to shop for baby supplies. 8. Consider enrolling your baby in a local playgroup or language class to help them adjust to their new environment," explained one expat living in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"If you feel comfortable in the country and your birth presents itself without any problems. By all means give birth in Jakarta, where you can stay close to your family, your other children, your house-help, your work (you can work until the last moment and keep all your maternity leave for when the baby is finally there)! You have friends visiting. You don't have that if you travel abroad to have the baby! I did that for my first 2 babies, as I was living in Cambodia and Myanmar, where local childbirth is really not recommended at all," said another expat in Jakarta, Indonesia.
