What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Dingle?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Dingle about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Irish healthcare system. Ireland offers a Maternity and Infant Care Scheme which provides free maternity services to all expectant mothers for their pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after the baby is born. Secondly, consider hiring a midwife or doula for additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide personalized care and help navigate the healthcare system. Thirdly, it's crucial to understand the legal aspects of having a baby in Ireland. If you are not an Irish citizen, your child will not automatically become one unless one of the parents has lived in Ireland for at least three out of the four years preceding the child's birth. Next, consider joining local parenting groups or expat communities in Dingle. They can provide valuable advice, support, and friendship during this exciting time. Also, start planning for childcare early. There are various options available in Ireland, including creches (daycare centers), childminders, and preschools. Remember to take advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings in Dingle. Regular walks and fresh air can be beneficial for both mother and baby. Lastly, ensure you have a good understanding of your employment rights. In Ireland, pregnant employees are entitled to 26 weeks of maternity leave, with the option of an additional 16 weeks of unpaid leave. Remember, every pregnancy and birth experience is unique. It's important to stay flexible, ask for help when needed, and enjoy this special time in your life," remarked another expat who made the move to Dingle , Ireland.
