What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Bray?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Bray about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. Research and choose a suitable hospital or maternity clinic in Bray or nearby areas well in advance. Ireland has a high standard of healthcare and many options to choose from. 2. Understand the healthcare system in Ireland. The country offers free maternity care under the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme, which covers antenatal visits, labour, delivery, and postnatal care. 3. Register your pregnancy with a local General Practitioner (GP) or obstetrician as soon as possible. They will guide you through the process and schedule necessary appointments. 4. Consider hiring a midwife for personalized care during pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal period. Midwifery is a popular choice in Ireland. 5. Attend antenatal classes. They are a great way to prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and also a good opportunity to meet other expectant parents in Bray. 6. If you're not an EU citizen, check your visa status and make sure your baby will have the right to Irish citizenship or the necessary residency rights. 7. Start thinking about childcare options early. There can be long waiting lists for nurseries and childminders in Bray. 8. Make sure to register the birth of your baby within three months. This can be done at any Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. 9. If English is not your first language, look for support groups or communities of your own nationality. They can provide valuable advice and support. 10. Finally, enjoy this special time. Bray is a beautiful seaside town with a lot to offer families, from lovely parks to a safe and friendly community," explained one expat living in Bray, Ireland.
