What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Rapallo?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Rapallo about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Italian healthcare system. Italy has a high standard of healthcare and pregnant women are well cared for. However, the system can be complex and it's important to understand how it works. Ensure you have the necessary health insurance coverage. If you are an EU citizen, you should be covered by your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). If you are from outside the EU, you will need to check your private health insurance policy. Find a good gynecologist and hospital. Rapallo has several good hospitals and clinics, but it's important to find one where you feel comfortable and where the staff speaks your language. Consider hiring a doula or midwife. They can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. Learn some Italian. While many doctors and nurses speak English, not all hospital staff may be fluent. Knowing some basic Italian can be very helpful. Prepare for the paperwork. Italy is known for its bureaucracy, and having a baby is no exception. Make sure you understand what documents you need to register the birth and get a passport for your baby. Finally, embrace the Italian culture. Italians love children and families, and having a baby in Italy can be a wonderful experience. Enjoy the local food, take advantage of the beautiful surroundings in Rapallo, and immerse yourself in the local community," commented one expat who made the move to Rapallo, Italy.
