What advice do you have for expats having a baby in River Valley?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in River Valley about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. Research and choose a hospital: Singapore has a number of excellent hospitals with maternity facilities. Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospital are popular choices among expats. 2. Understand the healthcare system: Singapore has a world-class healthcare system, but it can be expensive. Make sure you have adequate health insurance that covers maternity costs. 3. Find a good obstetrician: It's important to find a doctor you trust and feel comfortable with. Ask for recommendations from other expats or your local doctor. 4. Attend prenatal classes: Many hospitals offer prenatal classes that can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood. These classes can also be a great way to meet other expectant parents. 5. Register the birth: You will need to register the birth of your child within 14 days. The hospital will provide you with the necessary paperwork. 6. Apply for a Dependant's Pass: If you are an expat, you will need to apply for a Dependant's Pass for your child. This will allow your child to stay in Singapore with you. 7. Find a pediatrician: It's a good idea to find a pediatrician before your baby is born. Again, ask for recommendations from other expats or your local doctor. 8. Consider hiring a confinement nanny: In Singapore, it's common to hire a confinement nanny to help care for the mother and baby in the first month after birth. This can be particularly helpful if you don't have family nearby to help. 9. Join a support group: There are many support groups for new parents in Singapore. These can be a great source of advice and companionship. 10. Enjoy the experience: Having a baby in a foreign country can be a daunting experience, but it can also be an exciting and rewarding one. Enjoy the journey and make the most of the excellent facilities and services available in Singapore," remarked another expat in River Valley, Singapore.
