What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Cadzand?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Cadzand about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Dutch healthcare system. Prenatal care in the Netherlands is typically handled by a midwife, unless there are complications. Secondly, ensure you have the right health insurance. The Dutch healthcare system is insurance-based, so you'll need to make sure your policy covers maternity care. Thirdly, consider taking Dutch language classes. While many Dutch people speak English, understanding the local language can make medical appointments and hospital visits less stressful. Fourthly, research and decide on your birthing plan early. The Netherlands has a high rate of home births, but hospital births are also common. Fifthly, be aware that after the baby is born, a 'kraamverzorgster' or maternity nurse will come to your home for eight to ten days to help with the baby and light household chores. Sixthly, register your baby's birth within three days at the local municipality. Lastly, connect with other expat parents in Cadzand or join local parenting groups. They can provide valuable advice and support during this exciting time," commented one expat who made the move to Cadzand, The Netherlands.
