What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Playa Blanca?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Playa Blanca about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Panama. The country has both public and private healthcare, with the private sector generally offering a higher standard of care. Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Some insurance policies may not cover pregnancy-related costs or may have a waiting period before coverage begins. Find a good obstetrician who speaks your language or with whom you feel comfortable communicating. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or from your local embassy. Consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and during childbirth. They can also help you navigate the local healthcare system. Take prenatal classes if they are available. These can help you prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and can also be a great way to meet other expectant parents. Ensure your passport and visa are up to date, and familiarize yourself with the process for registering your baby's birth and obtaining a passport for them if you plan to travel outside Panama. Plan for the cost of having a baby in Panama. This can include medical costs, but also the cost of baby items such as a crib, stroller, and car seat. Finally, try to embrace the local culture and customs around pregnancy and childbirth. This can make your experience more enriching and enjoyable," explained one expat living in Playa Blanca, Panama.
