What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Jizan?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Jizan about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Jizan. The city has both public and private hospitals, and it's crucial to understand the differences in services and costs between the two. Secondly, ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. This will help to offset any high costs associated with childbirth and postnatal care. Thirdly, consider hiring a translator if you're not fluent in Arabic. While many doctors and nurses in Saudi Arabia speak English, there may be times when a translator is necessary to ensure clear communication. Fourthly, respect the local customs and traditions. Saudi Arabia is a conservative country with strict laws and customs, especially regarding women's rights and behavior. Fifthly, make sure to have all the necessary documentation for your baby. This includes a birth certificate and passport, which are necessary for any future travel or legal matters. Lastly, build a support network. Living in a foreign country can be isolating, especially when you're dealing with the stresses of having a baby. Reach out to other expats, join local groups, and don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it," said a member in Jizan, Saudi Arabia.
