What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Al Lith?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Al Lith about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Saudi Arabia. The country has both public and private healthcare sectors, and as an expat, you may have access to both. However, the private sector is often preferred by expats due to shorter waiting times and English-speaking staff. Ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Some insurance policies may require a waiting period before maternity coverage is provided, so plan accordingly. Find a good obstetrician and hospital for your prenatal care and delivery. Ask for recommendations from other expats or your local community. It's important to feel comfortable with your healthcare provider. Understand the cultural norms and laws in Saudi Arabia. For example, women are required to dress modestly, and this extends to maternity wear. Also, unmarried women giving birth may face legal issues, as sex outside of marriage is illegal. Prepare for the birth certificate process. In Saudi Arabia, the hospital will issue a notification of birth, which you will need to take to the local civil affairs department to obtain an official birth certificate. The birth certificate will be in Arabic, so you may need to get it translated if you want an English version. Consider hiring a doula or midwife for additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide emotional support, help with pain management during labor, and assist with breastfeeding after the baby is born. Finally, connect with other expats who have had babies in Saudi Arabia. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend specific resources in Al Lith," remarked another expat in Al Lith, Saudi Arabia.
