What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Armenia?
We asked people in Armenia if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...
"When visiting Armenia, avoid wearing revealing clothing, as it may be considered disrespectful. Be cautious when discussing politics, as opinions can be strong and varied. Refrain from comparing Colombia to other South American countries, as Colombians are proud of their unique culture. Avoid making jokes about drug trafficking or violence, as these are sensitive topics. Do not assume everyone speaks English, and make an effort to learn some basic Spanish phrases. Be punctual for social events, but be prepared for locals to arrive late. When greeting someone, use a handshake or a light kiss on the cheek, but avoid hugging unless you know the person well. Finally, always show respect for the local customs and traditions, and be open to learning about the rich Colombian culture," remarked another expat who made the move to Armenia, Colombia.
