"When visiting Nafplio, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions to avoid any cultural faux pas. One should avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics, religion, and the country's economic situation, as these can lead to heated debates. Greeks are known for their hospitality, so refusing an offer of food or drink can be seen as rude. If you're invited to someone's home, it's customary to bring a small gift, such as flowers or sweets. In Greece, punctuality is not as strictly observed as in other cultures. However, for formal occasions or business meetings, it's better to be on time. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. Women should cover their shoulders and knees, while men should avoid wearing shorts. Avoid using the "moutza" gesture (open palm with fingers extended, facing outward), as it's considered highly offensive. Do not litter or vandalize, especially at historical sites. Greeks are proud of their cultural heritage and disrespecting it is frowned upon. Lastly, Greeks appreciate it when foreigners make an effort to speak their language. Even a simple "Kalimera" (Good morning) or "Efharisto" (Thank you) can go a long way," explained one expat living in Nafplio, Greece.
