What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Taipei. They wrote...
"One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture for expats in Taipei is the language barrier. Many locals speak Mandarin Chinese, which can be difficult for expats to understand. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to navigate for those who are unfamiliar with them. For example, it is considered rude to point with one finger, and it is important to show respect to elders. Furthermore, the Taiwanese are known for their hospitality, and it is important to be polite and courteous when interacting with them. Finally, the local cuisine can be quite different from what expats are used to, and it can take some time to get used to the flavors and ingredients," said another expat in Taipei, Taiwan.
