What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Koh Chang. They wrote...
"Expats in Koh Chang often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and communication can be difficult. The Thai concept of "saving face", which discourages direct confrontation or criticism, can also be confusing and frustrating for foreigners. The slower pace of life, known as "Thai time", can be another challenge for expats who are used to more punctual cultures. Additionally, the hot and humid climate can be difficult to adjust to. Lastly, understanding and respecting the deep-rooted Buddhist traditions and customs, which permeate every aspect of daily life, can also be a challenge for expats," remarked another expat who made the move to Koh Chang, Thailand.
