What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Krabi. They wrote...
"Expats in Krabi often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture. Thai is a tonal language and can be difficult to learn, making communication with locals a challenge. Another challenge is the difference in social norms and etiquette. Thai culture places a high value on respect and politeness, and it can be easy for foreigners to unintentionally offend locals by not understanding these norms. The pace of life in Krabi can also be a challenge for expats. The local culture tends to be more laid-back and slower-paced than what many Westerners are used to, which can lead to frustration when trying to get things done. Food can also be a challenge for some expats. Thai cuisine is known for its bold flavors and spiciness, which may not suit everyone's palate. Lastly, the hot and humid climate of Krabi can be difficult for expats to adjust to, especially those from cooler climates," remarked another expat who made the move to Krabi, Thailand.
