What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Salto. They wrote...

"Expats in Salto often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the official language and not everyone speaks English. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. Additionally, the concept of 'manana' or 'tomorrow' can be frustrating for expats as locals tend to have a more relaxed attitude towards time and deadlines. The cuisine, heavily based on meat, can also be a challenge for vegetarians or those with specific dietary needs. Lastly, adjusting to the local customs and social norms, such as the traditional afternoon siesta and late-night dinners, can also be difficult for some expats," wrote a member who made the move to Salto, Uruguay.
