What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Harbour Island. They wrote...
"Expats in Harbour Island may find the slower pace of life challenging, as the local culture values relaxation and leisure over the hustle and bustle of city life. They may also struggle with the island time concept, where punctuality is not as strictly adhered to as in other cultures. The limited availability of goods and services can be a challenge, as the island is small and does not have the same variety of shopping or dining options as a larger city. The high cost of living can also be a challenge, as imported goods and services can be expensive. Additionally, while English is widely spoken, understanding the local dialect and colloquialisms can be difficult for newcomers. Lastly, the lack of privacy can be a challenge for some expats, as the close-knit community means that everyone knows everyone else's business," said a member in Harbour Island, Bahamas.
