What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Cairns. They wrote...
"Expats in Cairns often find the laid-back, relaxed pace of life challenging to adjust to, especially if they are used to a fast-paced, high-stress environment. The local dialect and slang can also be difficult to understand for those not familiar with Australian English. The high cost of living, particularly for housing and groceries, can be a shock for some expats. The extreme heat and humidity during the summer months can also be challenging for those not used to tropical climates. Additionally, some expats may find it difficult to adjust to the local customs and social norms, such as the Australian love for outdoor activities and sports. Lastly, the isolation of Cairns, being far from major cities like Sydney and Melbourne, can also be a challenge for some," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Cairns, Australia.
