What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Independence. They wrote...

"Expats in Independence may find the laid-back and relaxed pace of life challenging, as it can be quite different from the fast-paced lifestyle they may be used to. They might also struggle with the local Creole language, which is a mix of English, Spanish, and African dialects. Additionally, expats may find it difficult to adjust to the local customs and traditions, such as the importance of family and community, as well as the strong influence of religion in daily life. The lack of infrastructure and limited access to modern amenities can also be challenging for expats, as they may need to adapt to less reliable public transportation, limited healthcare facilities, and occasional power outages. Finally, expats may face challenges in building relationships with locals, as cultural differences and language barriers can sometimes make it difficult to form deep connections," said another expat in Independence, Belize.
