What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Rivas. They wrote...
"Expats in Rivas often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a faster, more structured lifestyle. Additionally, the concept of "Nica time," where punctuality is not highly valued, can be frustrating for those from cultures where being on time is important. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they may be used to from their home countries, such as high-speed internet or a wide variety of grocery items, can also be challenging. Lastly, adjusting to the local customs and social norms, such as the importance of family and community, can be difficult for some expats," remarked another expat who made the move to Rivas, Nicaragua.
