What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Leipzig. They wrote...
"Expats in Leipzig often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and the local dialect can be difficult to understand. The German bureaucracy can also be a challenge, with many processes and procedures to navigate when it comes to things like housing, healthcare, and taxes. Some expats may also struggle with the German cultural norms around punctuality and directness, which can come across as rude or unfriendly to those from more relaxed or indirect cultures. Additionally, the local food and drink culture, which heavily features meat and beer, may be difficult for those with different dietary preferences or restrictions. Lastly, the colder climate and shorter daylight hours in winter can be a challenge for those used to warmer, sunnier climates," said a member in Leipzig, Germany.
