What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Providencia Island. They wrote...
"Expats in Providencia Island may find the language barrier to be a significant challenge, as the local population primarily speaks Spanish and Creole English. Adjusting to the slower pace of life, known as "island time," can also be difficult for those accustomed to a more fast-paced lifestyle. Additionally, expats may struggle with limited access to certain goods and services, as the island is relatively remote and less developed compared to mainland Colombia. Cultural differences, such as local customs and social norms, may also take time to understand and adapt to. Finally, the lack of a large expat community on the island may make it harder for newcomers to build a social network and find support from fellow expats," said another expat in Providencia Island, Colombia.
