What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Villavicencio. They wrote...
"Primarily the language barrier, and second is the difference in which Americans value time much more than Colombians. Often I explain why we are impatient people, and why time is so valuable and we don't like to wait or waste it. I'm often saying that it's logical really, you can buy, find, replace, or make most anything but not time of course," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Villavicencio, Colombia.
"Expats in Villavicencio often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture. As Spanish is the primary language spoken in the city, those who do not speak the language may find it difficult to communicate with locals. Additionally, expats may find the local customs and traditions to be unfamiliar and difficult to adjust to. Furthermore, the city's hot and humid climate can be a challenge for those who are not used to it," commented one expat who made the move to Villavicencio, Colombia.
